Subject Specialist

Who?

Subject Specialists are teaching or non-teaching staff who have expertise in an area such as SEND, data, school finance, or attendance. Alternatively they are teaching staff or who have excellent subject knowledge and expertise which could be shared with other schools to support school improvement.

Subject Specialists are excellent practitioners in their field who don’t yet meet all the criteria of being a SLE due to reasons such as, a lack of experience in school to school support, they are non-teaching members of staff, or they haven’t yet been in a leadership role for 2 years.

What?

The role has been designed to allow excellent practitioners in any school related field to help improve the areas in which they hold expertise in other schools.

Subject Specialists will undergo some, but not all, of the SLE training to allow them to carry out their role. Additional one-to-one or small group training will be provided depending on the activities of the Subject Specialist.

Subject Specialists are recognised as experts in their field within the North Avon Teaching School Alliance, hence they will be able to support CPLD and some school-to-school support activities. Unlike SLEs, Subject Specialists are not nationally recognised and accredited.

How?
